Romford, UK — On 2 July 2025, Romford County Court granted a possession order against Mr Samsideen Alatishe, a long-standing council tenant, despite ongoing allegations of systemic discrimination, anti-social behavior, serious housing disrepairnoise nuisance, and failures to make reasonable adjustments. Mr Alatishe maintains that the proceedings breached his rights under Article 6 (right to a fair hearing) and Article 8 (right to respect for home and private life) of the European Convention on Human Rights, as well as protections under the Equality Act 2010.

Mr Alatishe, commonly known as Sam Alatishe is Black African man of Nigerian heritage, a tech entrepreneur and a graduate who studied for the Masters in Arts in Enterprise and Management for the Creative Arts at the University of the Arts London. He lives with long-term health conditions and disability and says he was unrepresented during critical stages of the proceedings, faced unreasonably short deadlines, and that key evidence supporting his counterclaim was not properly considered. He says he was unrepresented for critical hearings, given unreasonably short deadlines, and that key evidence supporting his counterclaim was not properly considered.

His counterclaim, valued at £2.5 billion, alleges long-standing discrimination, personal injury, and substantial economic loss, and is currently the subject of appeal and applications to suspend enforcement of the possession order.

“This case is not only about my home,” Mr Alatishe said. “It highlights how vulnerable tenants can be displaced without a genuine opportunity to defend themselves. If this can happen to me, it can happen to anyone.”

Mr Alatishe further states that the possession proceedings form part of a much wider pattern of alleged mistreatment spanning almost three decades, involving multiple public bodies. He is pursuing or preparing legal action against the Department for Work and Pensions/Jobcentre Plus, alongside affiliated employment and training providers Sencia Limited and Maximus Companies Limited.

He also alleges serious failures involving healthcare services, including claims against Lawns Medical Care, Grove Surgery, North Street Medical Care, Gables Surgery, King George Hospital, and the London Ambulance Service, as well as dental practices Rose Lane Dental Surgery and Marylebone House Dental Practice.

According to Mr Alatishe, the cumulative impact of these alleged failures has caused significant deterioration in his health, persistent insecurity, and long-term loss of economic opportunity. He says he has faced extreme difficulty obtaining legal representation, despite the scale and complexity of the litigation and his recognised vulnerability.

In light of these circumstances, Mr Alatishe says he is considering seeking asylum within the European Union or elsewhere, citing an alleged inability to secure effective protection of his fundamental rights in the United Kingdom.

Addressing the scale of his counterclaim, Mr Alatishe explains that it reflects lost entrepreneurial opportunity, not speculation:

“My claim reflects decades of lost development caused by unlawful interference,” he said. “Comparable technology companies founded in the same era — including those associated with figures such as Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook (Meta), Jeff Bezos of Amazon, Larry Page and Sergey Brin of Google (Alphabet) and not to mention the richest man in the world Elon Musk of Tesla and Space X and others have since reached valuations in the hundreds of billions or more. My counterclaim represents a fraction of that comparative market reality.”

“Like Elon Musk today,” he says, “I could probably have been looking at a milestone of earning a trillion dollars a year or much more.”

Mr Alatishe states that like Musk, he is a serial entrepreneur and in his early years, he not only developed websites and platforms in online dating and classifieds, but, he was one of the first inventors of local search and social networking in the early 2000’s around the time of the launch of the first official social network site Friendster. “Social media alone has grown into a multi‑trillion‑dollar industry,” he said.

Housing and equality campaigners say the case raises urgent questions about how local authorities seek possession against disabled and minority tenants, and whether county court procedures adequately safeguard human rights and equality obligations.
