The painting was part of a never before offered collection of works by Burliuk. It was the top achiever in a sale that was packed with 550 lots and grossed just under $500,000.

Also, a circa 1910 Roycroft Ali Baba bench commanded $17,220, while a 17th century English, Netherlands or Spanish School oil portrait of a Royal or Court Lady garnered $14,760.
The Sept. 21-28 Internet auction was headlined by the Paul and Mary Ballentine bitters bottle collection and the Don Spangler collection of Midwestern bottles and glass.
The auction, featuring the lifetime collections of Dick Withington and Brian Stead, has clocks, art, pottery and stoneware, art pottery, furniture, folk art, decoys, lamps, lighting, rugs, textiles.
The auction will be held at Burchard Galleries’ showroom in St. Petersburg, Florida (with safe distancing and COVID protocols in place). Online, phone, absentee bids accepted.
The Icart and Erté pieces are from a private local collection. A smattering of bronze creations by other artists will also be featured – 92 lots in all.

Also offered will be a copy of Yoko Ono’s book Grapefruit signed by John Lennon and twice signed by Yoko, and a rare Titanic item with a reference to businessman John Jacob Astor.
The full catalog showing all 289 lots is up for bidding and viewing now, at the University Archives website, as well as on three online platforms.
The online-only auction, held October 24th, featured the lifetime collections of Dick Withington (rare clocks) and Brian Stead (Canadian furniture and pottery). Nearly 700 lots came up for bid.
Over 800 quality lots will come up for bid, in a wide range of collecting categories. An expected top lot is an exceptionally rare New Orleans .900 silver fireman’s speaking trumpet from 1891.
