Top Unique Pedagogy to Meet Digital Future, is a book written by Jack Canfield and outlines different pedagogical methods that can be used in the twenty-first century. It is one of the few books that has a dual purpose; in the first chapter Canfield relates his experience with training teachers. The second chapter basically gives guidelines for teachers across the country who wish to adopt one or more of the techniques. Jack Canfield is a former school board president and teacher of sixth grade students in Florida.
One of the main themes in the book is to examine how teachers are being trained today and with a new wave of technology taking over much of our teaching, it is important to make use of this pedagogy as well. There are eleven different pedagogy techniques that Canfield introduces to us, each with its own unique benefits as well as drawbacks. They can all be used individually or can be combined in a class setting depending on the situation.
With innovative pedagogy, the teacher is encouraged to ask questions and to use personal experience in the lesson. This is done through a series of listening exercises that guide the teacher in understanding and answering student's questions. Another technique introduced in the book is for the teacher to use acronyms when making a point or explanation to reinforce the meaning of what was stated.
Another aspect that this book shares with its readers is that of using multimedia in the classroom. In this day and age where most people own cell phones, PDAs, and even daily newspapers, it is important for the teacher to be technologically savvy. By incorporating music into their lessons, using handouts that have audio to audio conversions, and using websites that offer flash animations, the teacher will be able to keep their students engaged and aware. Technology in general has become a part of our lives and is integral to teaching.
The three books that comprise this collection all deal with innovative pedagogy in their titles. All of them teach from a personal view point and all are highly regarded works that have been used in some form by teachers all over the world. The inclusion of the works of William Poundstone, Edward Said, and Noam Chomsky along with the works of the likes of Peter Senge, Philip Tetlock, and James Lehman amplify these works' value in helping teachers to devise and put into practice these techniques. As these teachers are used by schools, colleges, universities, and other educational institutions as authority figures, their works will most likely become the norm.
Unique pedagogy is one that differs from the usual teaching style. It is usually marked by an unusual delivery style, pedagogical approach, and an innovative use of technology. These traits make a unique pedagogy essentially different from the common teaching style and are the features that are important for teachers to become distinctive and stand out from the crowd. If teachers want to take their teaching career to a whole new level, a unique pedagogy is exactly what they need. In order to help the teachers fulfill this need, these books provide a unique pedagogy for teachers.
