The very first Mickey Mouse watch was created way back in 1933 from the Ingersoll Waterbury Clock Co. of Waterbury and has been one handed rescue of the business from insolvency by Mickey! A joint venture has been formed between the failing watch maker along with the rising star of the movie world, Walt Disney Productions. This brought about the production of the very first'Mickey Mouse Watch' for boys in 1933. view publisher site
Launched in Chicago, from the genius promoter Herman Kamen who had been brought in by Walt Disney, to exploit the Disney brand via the powerful icon of Mickey Mouse.
Ingersoll manufactured the first watch which was initially priced at $3.25 and later lowered to $2.95. The first view was manufactured with a rounded bezel and also had three small Mickeys onto a rotating disk, the disc moved around in steady increments with every second. This famous watch was in continuous production in some form since 1933. Somewhat sacrilegiously from the 1960's Mickey's figure did not even appear on the watch at all being replaced with the words,"Mickey Mouse" merely written on the watch face.
In tune with the era, they went on designing new classics such as the iconic Mod Watches. A rare and sought after watch was the backward Goofy, made by Helbros. Somewhat quixotically the 90s swatch watch numbers were placed in backward order to accommodate Goofy's hands moving backward somewhat difficult for learning to tell the time! Whenever they seemed in 1972 the watches obtained a cult status.
