How to Relieve Migraine Headache?

Migraine is a very unpleasant condition, which in some cases even may ruin a life.

Unfortunately, this disease is hereditary, and it’s still impossible to fully treat it. But there are a lot of methods which will help relieve this excruciating headache. Do you want to know them? We will tell you about them in this article.

1. Coffee

If you sometimes experience migraine attacks, coffee may help you. At the beginning of a migraine attack, drink a small cup of coffee. Yes, sounds strange but since migraine headache is not caused by fluctuating blood pressure, you are allowed and even should drink coffee but in small quantities. 

2. Ginger

Ginger is a good method to fight any type of headache. Also, this superfood is an excellent prevention of colds. So, it would be much better to include ginger tea with apples and cinnamon to the daily menu.

3. Cayenne pepper

Cayenne pepper is better to add to dishes. Also, you can use an ointment based on cayenne pepper. Just apply some ointment on your temples and gently massage. And don’t forget to wash your hands well after using this ointment!

4. Mint and lavender

These herbs are also used as a preventive measure against migraine headaches. Peppermint is a sedative herb, and lavender helps relieve inflammation of vessels and relieves spasms from the muscles of the neck and around the eyes. 

5. Vitamins

Some vitamins may help to prevent migraine headaches. These are riboflavin, magnesium and vitamin B6. But you should consume these vitamins only after consulting with your doctor. 

6. Hydrotherapy

For a long time, therapeutic baths were considered to be an effective migraine treatment method in China, which allowed to combine the power of all four elements: water, fire (the procedures were carried out in hot springs heated by underground fire), air (hydrogen sulfide baths) and earth (mud wraps).

7. Yoga

According to some studies, yoga treatment may help to reduce the frequency and intensity of migraine attacks. Yoga contributes to relaxation, it helps relieve stress and treat the physical symptoms of migraine. Although special attention is paid to breathing techniques and relaxation, the treatment doesn’t differ from the usual yoga classes, which in this case can prevent migraine attacks.

8. Give up smoking

It is proven that smoking tobacco aggravates the symptoms of migraine headache. Inhalation of cigarette smoke can trigger migraines even in a non-smoker. If you smoke and have constant headaches, think about giving up this habit. Whether you smoke or not, try as little as possible to inhale tobacco smoke.

9. Regular physical activity

According to some studies, sports are almost as effective in relieving and preventing migraines as taking medications. Regular physical activity will help you reduce the symptoms of migraine and prevent its attacks in the future. But remember that excessive physical activity can provoke a migraine.

How to prevent a migraine?

Let's review some standard preventive methods, which should be followed by any person who doesn’t want to harm their health:

  • Avoid stress.

  • Keep regular sleeping hours.

  • Avoid foods that cause migraines (chocolate, muffins, red wine, coffee in large quantities). Eat regularly and don’t skip meals.

  • Drink enough water.

  • Drink coffee in small quantities.
