Algerian Folklore Revived: 'Lily and Bella Tales' Initiative by Nesrine Bengra

Sidi Bel Abbes, Algeria –3^rd January,2025  Nesrine Bengra, is not only a communication & electrical engineer but also an Algerian marketing professional who aims to become the next cultural advocate, now is leading a unique initiative to preserve and revive Algeria’s rich oral storytelling traditions. Titled "Lily and Bella Tales,"the project collects bedtime folklore passed down through generations from the 1800’s, blending cultural heritage, humor, life lessons, and the original funny and unexpected twists that have delighted children as well as adults for decades.

Inspired by her great-great-grandmother Henna Aisha, born in 1898, these stories were originally shared within Nesrine’s family. Now, she is bringing them to the world for a new generation of children, including her daughter Lily and niece Bella, after whom the project is named.

“These stories are a window into our culture—full of lessons, humor, timeless twists, and traditional proverbs that resonate with children and adults alike,” Nesrine explains. “By preserving and sharing them, I hope to connect generations and ensure our heritage remains alive and relevant.”

A Fresh Approach to Timeless Stories

The "Lily and Bella Tales" initiative combines tradition with innovation:

●      Print-on-Demand Books: Beautifully illustrated physical books will make these timeless tales accessible globally.

●      Digital Formats: E-books and audiobooks will allow families worldwide to experience these stories in multiple formats.

●      YouTube Story Videos: Animated narrations will bring the stories to life with vivid visuals and engaging storytelling.

●      Merchandise Line: Characters from the tales will inspire toys, apparel, and stationery, letting children own a piece of this magical world.

A Professional Touch

Nesrine brings a unique combination of cultural passion and professional expertise to this initiative. As a communication and electrical engineer with a master’s degree in marketing, public relations and strategic management, she is well-versed in connecting people through storytelling. Nesrine’s accolades include being named Best Marketing Professional in 2023 at the prestigious Dubai Global Woman Leadership Program alongside numerous other awards.

Her philanthropic legacy includes creating the UAE Red Crescent Polo Charity Exhibition Game as well as Autisim Awareness Charity Polo Exhibition Game at the Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club in Abu Dhabi, these events that continue to thrive today.

The stories in "Lily and Bella Tales" will be published in Algerian dialect, Arabic, and English to ensure accessibility to a diverse, global audience while retaining their cultural authenticity.
