We are excited to announce that Uma Ventures has invested in Primer Microschools. Founded in 2020, Primer is a community-focused network of microschools that provides personalized education, enabling every student to thrive academically.
Led by Founder & CEO Ryan Delk, Primer operates 23 microschools in Florida and Arizona. Primer’s community-focused model empowers the best teachers to launch a Primer microschool within their communities, reflecting and serving local needs. This approach is evident in Liberty City, Miami, where Primer schools mirror the neighborhood’s demographic and socioeconomic makeup.
“We are excited to partner with Uma Ventures as we expand our network of microschools. We share the belief that every child should have access to a high-quality education, regardless of their family’s finances. Primer’s model ensures that children’s education is within reach for every family. Together, we will provide high-quality, affordable education to more communities.”
– Ryan Delk, CEO of Primer
Primer’s mission is to empower the next generation to be ambitious, creative, and self-reliant. Students make their own educational choices, fostering independence and passion. Primer provides a highly personalized education experience that adapts to each child’s unique needs.
Primer enables students to thrive at their own pace, whether they’re ahead or need help catching up. Students explore creativity and curiosity through passion-driven projects and set their own goals, fostering accountability and self-directed learning. Core academics are taught in small groups for personalized attention and community building. These foster mentorship and social skills, preparing students for real-world interactions. Primer ensures open communication, involving parents in shaping their child’s education.
“We believe parents should have multiple unrestricted choices for their children’s education regardless of where they live and their socio-economic background. We are thrilled to support Primer’s mission in making early education accessible to all” .
– Ash Shrivastav, Managing Partner of Uma Ventures
Primer plans to rapidly expand into new states beginning in the 2025/26 school year. Their focus will be on markets where public schools are underperforming, and private schools are too costly or religiously affiliated.
Primer is backed by Founders Fund, Khosla Ventures, Soma Capital, Cyan Banister, Sam Altman, Naval Ravikant, Balaji Srinivasan, and many others.
