Hydrogen Chloride Market – Overview
Hydrogen chloride is a colorless, inorganic, gas that when kept at room temperature holds a strong odor. It is also considered a diatomic molecule having both hydrogen and chlorine atoms. It is non-flammable and toxic in nature but also highly soluble in water. Hydrogen chloride can react with carbonates, hydroxides, and active metals in order to produce chlorides in the presence of moisture. Hydrochloric acid is formed by dissolving hydrogen chloride in water and is, therefore, an aqueous form of hydrogen chloride. It can be liquefied via the process of liquefaction, wherein it is highly pressed and cooled down to low temperatures for easy transportation and storage. Liquid hydrogen chloride is also capable of freezing to white crystalline solids at a temperature of -1130C and boiling at a temperature of -830C. Hydrogen chloride is highly corrosive to human tissues both as a gas and as an aqueous solution, due to its strong acidic nature. This gas is also found in the human digestive system in an aqueous form, which helps to maintain a balance of pH of 1-2 in the stomach. It is widely used as a household cleaner, also available in the market in the aqueous form.
An important factor boosting the worldwide hydrogen chloride market growth is the rising demand from the oil and gas industry and pickling process of the steel business, among various applications. On the contrary, the effects of hydrochloric corrosive on people are very harmful and this may hamper the growth of this market.
