18 March, 2021 – Greenville County, SC -- The definition of “the new normal” has changed in the United States and across the world countless times in the past year. With vaccines starting to be rolled out, there is finally an end in sight to the COVID-19 pandemic--assuming enough people get vaccinated to reach herd immunity.
For many, a big part is feeling more comfortable about getting the COVID-19 shot. Some people talk very openly about their vaccine experience, sharing the good and bad, and often saying the pros far outweigh any cons. Medical professionals and nurses especially have proudly displayed their vaccination cards and posted pictures of their vaccinations with encouraging captions to remind the public that the vaccine is not something to be feared and that getting the shot is a critical part of the world returning to normal.
Everyone is ready to get life back to normal. They are tired of wearing masks and social distancing. They miss their family and want to give them a hug without concern as to whether or not they are giving or receiving a virus. Many would like to just get out and take a trip or vacation and feel safe again. They are ready for life to progress to post-covid status.
The CDC has decreed that the shortest route to overcoming this pandemic is to reach herd immunity through getting the Covid-19 immunization shot. People who are ready to get things back to normal are now lining up all over the country to get the different rounds of their COVID-19 shot. We are only in the first phase of the transformation. And for now everything still looks the same with people social distancing and wearing masks.
The good news is that things are getting ready to change in a bright new positive way. As more and more people get the shot there will be a visual identifier as to who got the shot and who did not. You will be able to look around and feel safer because you can see who got the shot. The identifier is easily seen and free when you receive the shot. What is it you say? It’s a little green silicone band that says “I GOT THE SHOT”. The “I GOT THE SHOT” band is currently being handed out for free at many shot sites around the country. It’s the outward proof that someone received the shot.
Imagine the feeling of seeing the green “I GOT THE SHOT” bands at work, at restaurants, on planes, and everywhere else, and knowing that each one of those people has been vaccinated. It will make you feel safer, make other feel safer, motivate others to get the shot, and provide a visual way to see healing across the country. The ripple effect is a powerful one and we all want to make as many ripples as possible to eradicate COVID-19 in the United States.
The virus cannot be seen but compassion and healing can. When people wear masks, it shows that they care about their family, friends, other people, and the well-being of their communities. Likewise, wearing a green “I GOT THE SHOT” band shows the same thing—it says that YOU CARE.
People can all do their part by, first and foremost, signing up to get a COVID-19 vaccination. The green “I GOT THE SHOT” bands are currently being handed out for free at many COVID-19 shot sights. However, it is currently physically impossible to get the bands to every site. If you received your shot and did not get a band or if you know you will soon get the shot you can complete an online form here to get your “I GOT THE SHOT” band for free.
After getting the band it is encouraged to wear it in public, share it on social media, and invite others to participate in the healing transformation. The most important thing is that we act together to defeat the Covid-19 pandemic, restore healing, and usher in a new post-pandemic healthy life.
