Ballet class generally starts at the bar, and thus does ballet dancing technique. Ballet Barre The barre is the place in ballet class where you learn and maintain your abilities and is the sustenance of all ballet technique.
Barre work also prepares you and warms you up thoroughly for the next part of your ballet dancing class which will be in the middle. All those glorious turns and leaps all start at the bar with repeat and devotion of plies and tendus.
Though plies look like nothing more than knee bends, these are actually preparing you for controlled jumps, flips and landings, and barre work starts every step that you do in the middle where your leg moves away from the body and every step you do in which the leg contributes to your system, for example glissades or builds.
A nicely put together barre should serve two functions. Primarily, it frees you for your centre work immediately afterwards, warms up your body slowly and limbers your own muscles. Barre Workouts The ease of the bar permits you to focus on the principles of ballet without having to concentrate too much on the order as you have to do at the centre.
