The license is not required by all states, so it's a good idea to check with your state's insurance board to make sure that you have one before getting your license.

Next, an agent must then choose from a list of brokers that will be provided to them by the insurance board. Most states will require that you have a certain amount of insurance under your belt before you'll be allowed to work as an independent broker. However, many states will allow you to work independently as long as you have completed all the necessary paperwork to prove that you are capable of handling such a role.

Finally, an agent must sit down with the client and discuss the details of the client's medical and insurance history and what each insurance company's policies entail. In most cases, the agent will provide them with quotes from various insurance companies. They will also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each plan, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses which the clients may incur for those plans. Although it is a very competitive field, if you take your time and learn as much as you can about the insurance industry, you will be in a good position to climb the ladder of success.
