GERD or acid reflux is a symptom that causes frequent heartburn and acidic symptoms. Those who suffer from acid reflux often become uncomfortable in sleep. They might not also get a sound sleep. But, if you do not get a complete sleep, then your acid reflux might get worse.
Here are some tips to follow if you want to get a comfortable sleep even you suffer from acid reflux.
1. A flatbed can worsen the symptoms of heartburn and other related uncomfortable symptoms. Try to sleep on an adjustable bed that can be raised or lowered as per demand. Experts recommend elevating the upper portion of the bed to at least half a feet to prevent acid build-up in the stomach during the night.
2. Tight clothes can also make your condition worse. Besides mattress risers for acid reflux, invest in loose sleepwear. Avoid any cloth that snugly fits your body(especially the lower portion). Tight clothes can put extra pressure on your stomach, which leads to heartburn and acidic symptoms.
3. Your sleeping position can also prevent heartburn. Besides sleeping in a rising bed, invest in accessories. Stop using multiple pillows under your head because the extra pillows can put excessive pressure on your oesophagus. Also, buy a proper mattress according to your health condition.
4. Sleeping on your back on the rising bed for acid reflux is best for preventing acid reflux. If you cannot rest on your back, then try sleeping on your left side. Sleeping on your left side prevents the acid from traveling back to your mouth. Hence, you do not get any uncomfortable feelings while you sleep.
5. The proper diet is also essential if you want to get a sound sleep at night. Try to eat at least two hours before you go to bed. This will minimize the acid reflux at night. Also, avoid oily foods or rich foods and caffeine,m alcohol, chocolate, acidic foods, onion, garlic and fried foods at night. These foods increase acid reflux. If you want to sleep peacefully, then try to eat a light and balanced supper at night.
6. Midnight craving is also another leading cause of discomfort. Hence, change your lifestyle habits and avoid midnight snacking.
7. People who remain awake late in the night have higher chances of getting acid reflux. So, make sure you go to sleep at the right time(before midnight). You need to get at least a rest of six to eight hours for better health.
If you want to sleep properly, then you need to buy an adjustable bed and a proper mattress. You can consult your doctor in this case. They can recommend the ideal bed and mattress type to you. Also, ask them about the pillows that you can use. A proper mattress with the bed is best for sleep. Make sure you follow a healthy diet to remain fit.
