Mother’s Day is a great occasion to remember and celebrate the women who brought us into this world. They also raised us to become good human beings and were always around for us during the good as well as the bad times. It wouldn’t be too far from the truth to say that only mothers can give us unconditional love.
It was an American lady called Anna Jarvis who founded Mother’s Day. She was a peace activist. She also took care of soldiers who were wounded in war and was active in issues concerning public health. After her mother’s death in 1905, she started a campaign for a day to honor all mothers. By 1911, due to her efforts, the holiday was introduced in all American states. The then President Woodrow Wilson, in 1914, signed a proclamation which said that the second Sunday in May would be celebrated as Mothers’ Day, and it would be considered a national holiday. Today, Mother's Day is observed in almost all parts of the world.
This year, the world will celebrate Mother’s Day 2020 on May 10. Unfortunately, due to the current situation, some of us may not be able to spend it with our mothers, even if we happen to live in the same city or town. But you could probably send her a gift to show that you are thinking of her. Many people might have completely forgotten about Mother’s Day, what with all the tension, stress and uncertainty that they have been going through for the past two months. But you can place an order online and ensure that your gift is delivered to your mom on her special day.
Here are some nine last-minute gifts that will bring a smile to your mom’s face on Mother’s Day. But make haste, for the day is almost here and you don’t have a lot of time!
1.Gift mom a trendy piece of jewelry like a silver or gold-plated bracelet or necklace. Or you could order a ring or pendant with her birthstone, for that personal touch which will surely be appreciated by your mom.
2. Does your mom have a sweet tooth? In that case, send her a box of chocolates or freshly baked cookies. Sometimes you can get hand-decorated cookies, which come in the shape of hearts and letters that spell “Mom.”
3. Get her a nice, roomy handbag that is both practical and elegant. Moms always keep a lot of stuff in their handbags like groceries, medicines, cosmetics, etc.
4. Buy her some comfortable footwear, especially something that will support her feet well and are ideal for wearing around the house.
5. Send her a bouquet of fresh flowers – her favorites, be it roses or orchids. Another option would be to gift her a fresh plant that she can tend to for a few years. She will love it, especially if she is missing the children she had raised and who have now flown the nest. Make sure it is a brand which comes with its own pot.
6. Trawl online sites for something she would like to wear. Maybe it’s a silk sari, or a stylish kaftan she can wear at home. Or it could be something more avant garde, if she is one of the fashionista Moms who loves to flaunt her style. You know her best, so choose accordingly.
6.Get her a cute keepsake box from an online store to store all her cherished items like her favorite jewelry, little knick-knacks, etc.
7. If your Mom loves to read, what could please her more than a set of books by her favorite author delivered to her doorstep on this special day? It would be a very thoughtful and inspired gesture on your part. Even a recipe book might be a good idea as it would help her beat the boredom by trying out some new recipes during this lockdown time. Make sure the recipes are healthy and immunity-boosting.
8. Is there a kitchen appliance your Mom needs to replace? Maybe you could surprise her by gifting it to her on Mother’s Day. Such appliances may be available at many online stores.
