Batsman Murali Vijay said that he plays cricket for pride and not for any other reason.
‘I play cricket just for pride and sheer passion for it. I do not look forward to play for India or world level. My funda is to play cricket at a higher level. So, any cricket is good for me and I am looking forward to contributing for the teams I play for’, he said.
Vijay, who is currently rested for the tour in West Indies, also plays for IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings. Vijay’s last game with India national cricket team was last year for test format. He said that he can still contribute more to cricket by training young players to have the right mind-set.
‘Of course, I am saying that I do not put any limitation on my dream. I have given four come back (to Indian cricket team) and there is no pressure. I know how to do that and I want to contribute to whichever team I play for. I want to make the team win and also get the youngsters in the right mindset. So, these are the contribution I can give to cricket’, he said.
Vijay will play three final games on the Country Championship for Somerset. When asked if he will use the game to make a comeback for India, the batsman said that he is not fussing over it.
‘This is what I have done over a period of 15 years. So, obviously, nothing changes in that aspect of it. But obviously, opportunities create more experience and I am looking forward to one’, he said.
Vijay was asked to play for Somerset to replace Azhar Ali.
‘Somerset have an excellent reputation and I am looking forward to being a part of what they are trying to achieve’.
