4/2/2018
Arthroscopy is a very favored procedure because of its effectiveness and the long-term benefits. Arthroscopy in India has benefitted several patients coming from countries all around the globe

Overview

There are many joint diseases that can badly damage our bones, cartilage, tendons, muscles, and ligaments. These ailments are generally diagnosed by thorough physical evaluation, going through the medical history of the patients, and imaging tests like X-rays, MRI scans, etc. But with Arthroscope, the diagnosis is more appropriate as compared to ‘open’ procedures or imaging tests.

The term ‘Arthroscopy’ literally means ‘to look inside the joint’. Also referred to as ‘Keyhole surgery’, in this procedure, the Orthopaedic expert uses special surgical tools and instruments to diagnose and treat issues within a particular joint. Some of the most common joint conditions detected with the help of Arthroscopic examinations are:

• Inflammations

• Acute or Chronic injuries

• Some Arthritic issues can also be cured by combining standard and Arthroscopic procedures:

o A release of Carpal Tunnel

             o Repair of torn Ligaments

             o Rotator Cuff Surgery

o Reconstruction of Anterior Cruciate Ligament in a knee

o Removal of loose bone or cartilage in knee, shoulder, elbow, ankle, wrist

Arthroscopy is a very favored procedure because of its effectiveness and the long-term benefits. There are many Indian hospitals that have this procedure as a part of the wide range of treatment options, which they offer. Arthroscopy in India has benefitted several patients coming from countries all around the globe.

Arthroscopic Surgery in India – Keyhole Surgery

The most important factor that is considered before finalizing Arthroscopy for a patient is the general health condition; especially if there are any heart, lung or liver-related issues. Arthroscopy is implemented to detect and address problems related to different joints but the most common joints are:

• Knee Arthroscopy –

In Knee Arthroscopy, the surgeon makes a small incision and passes a tiny camera via this incision. This instrument is known Arthroscope, which helps the surgeon to get an enhanced visualization of the knee joint. Then the surgeon investigates the problem and if needed, addresses the issue with the help of specialized instruments inside the Arthroscope.

• Shoulder Arthroscopy –

In this, the surgeon inserts the Arthroscope through a small incision made on the shoulder and once the investigation is done and the problem is recognized, the surgeon makes another 2-3 small incision to pass other instruments to correct the problem like a tear in the tendon, muscle or cartilage and if there is any affected tissue, it is removed as well.

• Wrist –

Wrist Arthroscopy can be used for curing problems like Chronic Wrist Pain, fractures, Ganglion Cysts, Ligament tears, etc. The incisions made are around half inches long and the Arthroscope is about the size of a pencil is inserted to check the problem affecting the wrist. The miniature camera and light attached to the Arthroscope help the surgeon to detect and correct the issue.

What are the benefits?

In Arthroscopy, the patients can be totally assured because there are hardly any complications.

• The long existing joint pain is gone

• Any post-surgery pain is taken care of by medications

• The incision is tiny so healing is faster

• Hardly any surgical scars

• The range of motion is increased

• Patients have reported feeling more active

• Lowered chances of infection at the surgery site
