Helpful Interview Tips:
Recognize the importance of building a rapport with your interviewer(s).
Accomplish the interviewer's agenda.
Prepare for the interview; do your homework about the company; visit their web site.
Have a positive attitude, beginning the moment you are waiting to be greeted. The receptionist may 'have the ear' of the hiring mgr.
Look your best; wear conservative interview attire even if it is not a formal setting.
Exude energy and drive(many firms feel this is critical in order to be successful)Have fire in your belly!
Listen very attentively to the interviewer and resist the temptation to interrupt.
Make sure your answers are concise, crisp, clear and to the point. No more than 60 seconds is the rule of thumb. Even if there is an uncomfortable silence for a moment after you answer a question, don't ramble on.
Body language is very important, firm hand shake to each interviewer and always maintain eye contact with the person who is asking the question. Warmly smile and don't slouch.
You may be asked what are your 2 or 3 critical abilities that will distinguish you from the other candidates? (Why should I hire you?) Be sure that the 2 to 4 competencies you highlight are your BEST abilities. Be prepared to give specific examples.
Remember that the more help you can give your potential boss in understanding how your skills can help the co. move toward its goals, the greater the chance you'll be hired.
Arrive early at the interview and be prepared to stay late.
Let the interviewer take the lead. If he/she wants to spend more time in the initial rapport building do not try to rush them through this part. Try to find a common bond.
The interviewer wants to understand the motivation for your taking and leaving each job and carefully evaluate whether your career is progressing in an upward direction.
Your communication skills are vital.
Act professional during the interview - speak only positively about your company, or former co. Don't ever interrupt, don't use slang or sarcastic humor.
Don't pass up the oppty to ask a question, if given the chance, but never ask about salary or benefits on a first interview.
Be prepared to give examples of your leadership and mgmt. abilities in your personal and business life.
Interviewers look for positive, can-do candidates who are self-starters and eager to accept a challenge.
Make eye contact throughout the interview. Answer questions directly and concisely.
It is the interviewer's responsibility to close the interview.
At the end of the interview, thank the interviewers for their time and ask them how the process will move forward from here.
