Mercy Veterinary Hospital PC has been serving pet owners in Manhattan for more than 20 years. We provide complete medical, surgical, and dental services for cats, dogs, and other small animals. We also perform spaying and neutering and offer supervised boarding services.

Gerald Johnson, DVM, Dip. ACVIM (Veterinarian, Owner)
Dr. Gerald Johnson graduated from Ohio State University and chose to continue his education as an intern and then as a resident at the Animal Medical Center (AMC). After his residency, he was asked to stay at the AMC and become part of the teaching staff and was chosen to head one of the medical teams. He also spent time at the VA hospital learning his specialty of gastroenterology, endoscopy, and laparoscopy from the physicians there. He became one of the first veterinarians to practice this specialty in small animals and has been called the father of small animal endoscopy. He has written close to 100 articles on small animal internal medicine and wrote the chapter on gastroenterology for a veterinary textbook. Dr. Johnson was one of the first to pass the certification test and become board certified in veterinary internal medicine. He is now a diplomat in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
While at the AMC, Dr. Johnson discovered Wilsons disease in Bedlington Terriers. Because of his work on this disease in the veterinary field, he was asked to work at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York alongside their researchers who were studying Wilsons disease in humans. He spent two years working to help research this disease in humans while continuing his medical service at the AMC.
Dr. Johnson has lectured to veterinary groups all over North America and Europe, and has also lectured to human gastroenterologists. Since 1982, Dr. Johnson has been practicing at Mercy Veterinary Hospital, also serving as the owner. He still receives referrals from veterinarians around New York City who need his expertise on gastroenterology/internal medicine cases. Dr. Johnson is one of only a handful of veterinarians to do endoscopy and laparoscopy procedures which, in many cases, can be used instead of more invasive surgical procedures.

Brian Morgan (Head Veterinary Technician)
Brian was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. When he was eight years old, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee and lived there for 16 years before coming to NYC. During his time in Nashville, Brian studied Biology and Theatre at MTSU, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Theatre Performance. He worked at the Animal Care Center in Mt. Juliet, TN from 2000-2006, where he learned many of the skills necessary to provide excellent medical care for small animals. Brian came to Mercy Veterinary Hospital in June, 2006, bringing with him a deep love and compassion for animals, great knowledge of small animal veterinary medicine, and a friendly smile.

In addition, we work with some of the top veterinary specialists in the country who can provide a variety of services, such as ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, cardiology, neurology and oncology. These specialists also can provide CT scans and MRIs. We also provide supervised and medical boarding in our facility.
