Drew United Methodist Church Welcomes You

We are a community of believers who have confessed our faith in Jesus Christ. Our mission is based on two scripture texts:
"What the Lord requires of us is this: to do what is just, to show constant love, and to love in humble fellowship with our God."

"Go then, to all people everywhere and make them my disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember! I will be with you always, to the end of the age."
– Matthew 28:19-20

We come together to worship, to grow in loving support of one another and others, and to give thanks for God's grace in our lives. We seek the ever-deepening presence of the Holy Spirit for a fuller, more joyful Christian life, for ourselves, our congregation, our community, our country, and the world at large.
Please join us for worship every Sunday morning at 9:30 am. All are welcome!

Celebrating Drew’s 175th Anniversary
On Friday, November 12th at 7:30 p.m., there will be an Ecumenical Service here at Drew as part of our 175th Anniversary Celebration. Our Guest Speaker will be the Rev. Bill Shillady, Executive Director of the United Methodist City Society in NYC. He officiated at the wedding of Chelsea Clinton and I am confident he will be an excellent speaker at this service.

Larry Bowman for the Anniversary Committee

Anniversaries are usually thought of in terms of a singular
event with a single meaning. Lyn and I will
celebrate our anniversary on the date we were married by going out,
sharing smiles and being very grateful that we have each other. It is
a happy time. Other anniversaries are not so happy. On Dec 7, we will
remember the bombing of Pearl Harbor and our entry into WWII. Each of
us can add events to this list and each event will have taken place at
a particular time. But, I am going to suggest that the anniversary
itself is, in fact, a series of many times. Let me explain.

Anniversaries are a time to remember. At Drew, we can remember the
times when services were moved to Drew Seminary because the fuel bill
could not be paid or we can remember the times when the Choral Society
filled the church with sounds of beauty. Someday, our children will
remember the enthusiasm generated by the first Day of Service. There
are lots of times to remember and that is why, the Anniversary
Committee adopted our Journal Project. We hope you read through it and
that the Journal helps you to remember.

Anniversaries are a time to honor. We honor the founding fathers of
this country. We, as Methodists, honor those circuit riders who
traveled throughout our country nourishing the small and growing
parishes in the tiny and isolated communities that once dotted this
land. So it is proper that we honor those former pastors that led us
through the good times and the bad times during the last half century.
On November 13, 2010, we will hold a dinner to so honor our past
clergy. Attending will be the Reverends Guise, Miller and
Baker-Stepe as well as the widow of George Weyand. We hope you will
join us at the event.

Anniversaries are a time to celebrate and so, on November 14, 2010
right after church service we will all meet in Sloat Hall and have a
party. Why? Because it is a time to be happy.

Most importantly, anniversaries are a time to take the time to thank
God for his many blessings and to remind us all that our lives and our
church are in His Hands. For this reason, we are opening our
Anniversary weekend with a special ecumenical service on November 12,
2010. Pastors from several Churches in our community will participate in our
service and the Sanctuary will ring with the sounds of our cherished
music program. Please plan on joining us in thankful prayer.

Lastly, Anniversaries can be a time for presents. At each of our
Anniversary events our church will be presented with a gift. Join us
for their unveiling (Hint: Not all presents can be wrapped and ribboned!)
