Driving lessons are offered in the Bronx 7 days a week! You can have the same vehicle and New York Certified Instructor during each private on the road driving lesson for a full 45 minutes. We provide a variety of cars (including stick shift), all fully insured, and all dual controlled for safety. We have patient, reliable, college trained, English and Spanish speaking instructors. There are no contracts to sign or courses to complete. Discount packages are offered here at Colwell’s Auto Driving School or you can pay for individual driving lessons as you go. If you don’t currently have a learner’s permit, please be sure to ask one of our professional customer service representatives about getting your FREE New York Permit Kit.

Automatic driving lessons are offered in the Bronx from 7:00am to 9:00pm, at a cost of only $30.00.
(Door-to-Door service is available for most locations.)

The following driving lessons are offered to licensed drivers only:

Standard Shift driving lessons are offered in the Bronx from 7:00am to 9:00pm, at a cost of only $45.00.
(Office Pickup Only for stick shift lessons. Deposit is Required.)

Motorcycle driving lessons are offered in the Bronx from dawn to dusk, at a cost of only $45.00.
(Office Pickup Only for motorcycle lessons. We supply all necessary riding equipment. Deposit is Required.)

Colwell’s Auto Driving School can offer you the use of our vehicle during your road test examination. However, we do require that you take at least one driving lesson prior to that test. We will gladly set up your road test appointment with the Department of Motor Vehicles at no extra charge as long as you are using our vehicle for your exam. You can also find this service included in our discounted driving lesson packages. A deposit is required to set up your road test exam and to reserve our vehicle for that day.

The fee is $95.00
(Includes one driving lesson and the use of our car during the road test.)

The fee is $145.00
(Includes one motorcycle lesson, the use of our motorcycle, and our car for the State Inspector.)

Lessons are 45 minutes in duration and conducted with our State Inspected Training Bus. All lessons must be prepaid, are by appointment only and you must meet at our office.

Prior to taking lessons, you must get a CDL Permit
from the New York State DMV.
For your convenience, we also offer a CDL Permit Study Session at our location to help prepare you for the CDL Permit Written Exam. Customer feedback continues to support the added benefit of Colwells conducting this highly recommended session for our students, so we encourage you to take full advantage of this opportunity!
CDL Permit Study Class - $80

The State of New York has made it mandatory for all permit holders to complete the Pre-licensing 5 Hour Course before applying for a road test. Colwell’s Auto Driving School currently holds this mandatory 5 Hour Course at our facility on East Gun Hill Road, during which refreshments are served. There is no written exam, no appointment is required to attend and you will complete the Pre-Licensing 5-Hour Course in just one visit. The fee is $30.00 and may only be paid in cash.
You MUST bring your learner’s permit with you to class.

The State of New York currently offers all drivers (permit holders or licensed) an opportunity to reduce their insurance and points by participating in a 6-Hour Insurance / Point Reduction Defensive Driving Course. Colwell’s Auto Driving School currently holds this 6 hr driving course at our facility on East Gun Hill Road, during which refreshments are served. There is no written exam, no appointment is required to attend and you will complete the 6 Hour Insurance / Point Reduction Defensive Driving Course in just one visit. Completion of this class entitles you to 10% off your automobile liability, no-fault and collision insurance premiums for the next three years and also guarantees a 4-point reduction off any violations that occurred in the previous 18 months. The 6-hr Insurance / Point Reduction Defensive Driving Course is offered at a cost of $48.00.
You MUST bring your learner’s permit or drivers license with you to class.

Take the class any day, anytime at your convenience from the comfort of your own home! Students who complete the online class will receive the same benefits as those who complete the classroom course. Simply click the link below, which will bring you to our online class hosted by the NYSP (New York Safety Program). The online course fee is $49.95 which can be paid securely by credit card. There is a very simple registration process before the class begins. The online course allows you to complete the class in one, or in multiple sessions. Work at your own pace anytime. The online class uses your webcam or your keystrokes to validate that you are the one taking the class. There are no tests or final exam if you use the webcam validation method. There is 24/7 technical support if needed. Also there is same day completion of processing and mailing your certificate to you, and notifying the DMV that you have completed the course. It doesnt get any easier than this.

Each driving lesson package deal for an automatic includes:

The cost is $205.00, payable in full or in two installments:
1st installment of $120.00 is due by the 1st lesson.
2nd installment of $85.00 is due by the 4th lesson.

The cost is $345.00, payable in full or in three installments:

2nd installment of $120.00 is due by the 4th lesson.
3rd installment of $105.00 is due by the 8th lesson.

Use of our car for the State Inspector during the road test

The cost is $300.00, payable in full or in two installments.
1st installment of $150.00 is due by the 1st lesson.
2nd installment of $150.00 is due by the 3rd lesson.
