11 October 2010: Cook Islands New Issues & More

On August 12, 2010, Philatelic Collector Inc., in association with Henry Gitner Philatelist Inc., has been appointed with long-term exclusivity to be the Philatelic Agency for the Cook Islands which also includes Aitutaki and Penrhyn Islands. This amazing stock from 1948-2001 has both the original Artwork used for the cachets and the metal plates from which they came. Also included are many House of Farnam Artwork (denoted by an HF after the Scott number) as Artmaster later assumed production of these cachets. The early Artmaster covers were single color engravings and then starting with the Christmas issues of the 1960s, they began experimenting with multicolor printing. With the purchase of the archives we discovered an interesting and little known fact: Artmaster also printed special commercial mailers for the Bekins Moving Company from 1962-1972. Much smaller quantities were printed of these and the only difference from the Artmaster cachets is the Bekins name engraved in the plate. These unique plates and artwork are sure to pique the interest of both Issue and Topical collectors!

We need all other mint unsigned Junior Duck purchased. Full sheets also wanted.

In Sept 1956 the UN prepared a full double pane imperforate sheet of 100 as a proof for the 3d printing of the 2 cent 1951 UN First issue. This sheet was approved in September for the 3rd printing which was released in October 1956. The sheet was fully gummed on stamp paper, and other than being imperforate, identical to the issued stamps in every respect. The sheet was VERY LIGHTLY folded vertically left and right through the MI blocks and once in the center. Additionally the gum is a little darker than usual due to its storage. The 2 cent value in any printing was not previously known imperforate and was not present in the UN archives sold several years ago.

All orders will include our certificate of authenticity and the position numbers of the piece you purchase. Pairs and gutter pairs will be supplied without the light creasing until they are no longer available. Henry or Debbie Gitner will be pleased to assist you with any special position requests.
