Sally Davidson Landscape Design is a small company based in Florida, NY that provides environmentally sensitive garden design, planting and maintenance services for all types and sizes of gardens except lawns. With our customers’ preferences in mind, we plan gardens that enhance a family’s property and that are a pleasure to return home to through all seasons.

If you have a particular problem area in your garden, we are available simply for consultation to answer questions and to offer suggestions. Or we can set up a meeting to discuss a design drawing if you want help planning a new garden or garden makeover.

Our designs are drawn to scale according to measurements we take of the proposed site and of your existing landscape features. You will be able to see suggested placement of specific plants, the planting areas in relation to the house and lawn, and the extent and shapes of hardscaping such as walks, patios and ponds, if you choose to include those features.
Each design plan comes with a detailed plant list, recommended sizes to plant, and information on plant cultural conditions and what maintenance will be necessary. Most families lead very busy lives and time for work in the garden may be limited, so we try in such cases to plan gardens that will look great with minimum effort.
The fee for a design plan is based on the size of your proposed garden and the complexity of features you wish to include. You will know the design fee by the end of our initial meeting.
The design drawing you receive is detailed enough that you can build the garden yourself, if you choose, or Sally Davidson Landscape Design will implement the design for you. Generally, whether for a new garden or a garden makeover, features such as paving, walls, fences and decks are installed before any planted areas. Trees are best planted in early spring or early fall.

We emphasize the importance of good soil preparation in your planting areas, and will include that cost as part of the estimate we give if you wish us to build your garden. Gardens can be costly to build, and many people phase the installation of their gardens over a period of years.

After receiving certification as a landscape designer and commercial horticulturist from the New York Botanical Garden in 1999, Sally Davidson worked as an assistant with Carl Monte Landscape Architects of Walden and New York, NY and as a landscape designer at Matterhorn Nursery of Spring Valley, NY. During that time she designed residential projects for private customers and, in 2005, expanded Sally Davidson Landscape Design to include installation and maintenance services with the help of a small crew, all of whom are experienced gardeners as well as skillful landscape technicians. We serve customers primarily in Orange County, but have others in Putnam and Rockland Counties, northern New Jersey and Manhattan.
