Gender Communication Expert offering Training and Couples Counseling
Someone who understands how hard it is, especially for men, to go to counseling?
Someone who wont take sides, even when you want him to?
Someone who will listen but also make practical suggestions and offer homework?
Someone who understands both of us and helps us learn to talk so the other one hears?
Someone who does not want to make you dependent on a therapist?
I have found that most people do not really care about my training, education, what I read; they just want to know if counseling works and if I can help them.
Yes to both. Counseling is highly effective given certain circumstances. The research consistently shows that the quality of the relationship with the counselor is a higher predictor of success than the theory which the counselor uses. If you do not fit with your counselor for any reason, get a new counselor. If you have come to couples counseling and the relationship has already died, or is on its deathbed, we will not be successful. Otherwise, we can be highly effective.
How does counseling help with relationships? We work together to ensure you are not doing the things that predict divorce and you are doing the things that help create a good relationship. I ask questions that pinpoint what we need to address, as you define them. I fight for the marriage and look for any way possible to keep the relationship. I think that some people give up too easily and I challenge them.
Information is Power: I do a fair amount of teaching, giving examples, stories and we tend to laugh a fair amount. I give you homework to practice. There is practice involved to ensure that you not only understand the theory, but you can actually do what is necessary to have a healthy relationship.

New Patient Paperwork
If you would like to come for a session, I can send you paperwork via mail or you can download it here ( my preference- then we can spend our time talking rather than filling out paperwork), fill it out and bring it to the first session: New client paperwork
