During the summer of 1997, Rick Shalvoy completed his first Row for a Cure after losing a friend to breast cancer several years earlier. Rowing the 300-mile course around the outer shoreline of Long Island (New York) in a 19-foot ocean rescue boat, Rick became a major fundraiser for cancer research and promised to "row for a cure" every year until a reasonable range of safe cancer therapies have been discovered, studied, proven effective and made available to patients

An amazing turn of events occurred five months after Rick completed his first Row for a Cure -- A Fight Against Cancer
This man who had dedicated so much of his life to the fight against cancer was diagnosed with malignant melanoma and suddenly found himself fighting for his own life in addition to fighting for the lives of other cancer patients.

Rick's rationale for refusing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation was that he was thoroughly unimpressed with the science behind the use of the conventional cancer treatments that he was being told he needed. The likelihood of remission was small and the downside risk of failure with this terminal disease was big. Rick was not necessarily looking for alternative cancer treatments (via holistic medicine, etc.), and he certainly was not looking for stories of amazing cures. He was looking for evidence. His path of discovery was entirely data driven. The scientists Rick consulted did not make any "pie in the sky" promises. They simply showed him the data pertaining to their studies with palladium lipoic complex, the active complex in a liquid dietary supplement with an impeccable track record of safety.

Six months after being diagnosed, Rick's cancer was in the midst of a "disappearing act" -- a partial remission. He completed his second annual Row for a Cure in July, 1998. Three months later, Rick was informed that he had achieved complete remission and he has remained cancer free since October, 1998.

After more than ten years of "rowing for a cure" and working closely with some of the most prominent cancer research centers in the world, Rick has decided that the time has come for the truth to be told. It is Rick's hope that cancer patients (and their loved ones) who are looking for truthful and unbiased information will find assistance here -- on the pages and links contained in this website, CancerAssistanceCenter.org.
